Retrieve and Almindoro will likely meet again in the Victoria Derby on October 30.

Settling well, the seasoned mare and jockey Luke Nolen made their move on the straight as early leader Definitely Ready weakened. Originally the last emergency in the closing race at Caulfield Cup Day, Varenna Miss gained a start following the high number of scratchings and went out as the $2.20 favourite. Seemingly done and dusted after an awkward jump and subsequent horror run, Tony Noonan’s lightly-raced four-year-old bolted into contention on the straight sitting equal across with Flying Tessie and Netra. In a blanket finish it was the favourite that put her nose out and won the race, followed by a gallant Flying Tessie with Netra in third.
