A major reshuffle of the 2010 Caulfield Cup betting odds following this morning’s barrier draw has seen a number of the early fancies drift out and the Chris Waller-trained Metal Bender shorten into the $6 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au.
Metal Bender came up trumps in the barrier draw with gate two, set to move into the rails with barrier one if the emergencies don’t gain a start.
Following his ideal draw, five-year-old Danasinga gelding Metal Bender shortened into the clear favourite to win the $2.5 million Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield Racecourse this Saturday.
A poor barrier draw has seen Alcopop drift out to $10 while Herculian Prince has firmed into a $7 chance at Ladbrokes.com.au
One of the biggest movers in the Caulfield Cup betting markets has been the Mark Kavanagh-trained Shocking now the $6.50 second favourite.
Last year’s Melbourne Cup winner, Shocking has drawn mid-field with barrier 12 for the Caulfield Cup and has had lots of money come in for him despite being allocated the 57kg top-weight.
Previous second elect Alcopop may have snared a spot in the Caulfield Cup field, but after drawing the far outside barrier the Jake Stephens-trained six-year-old has drifted out to $10 in the markets.
Other gallopers at the top of the Caulfield Cup betting are Herculian Prince and Faint Perfume, the only two other runners at single figure odds to become the 2010 Caulfield Cup winner.
Gai Waterhouse’s Herculian Prince was impressive last-start winning the Group 1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Randwick and after a favourable barrier six draw for Saturday, has firmed into $7.
Herculian Prince has carried between 55.5 and 56.5 kilos at his last three starts, making him an ideal lightweight chance in the Caulfield Cup field set to carry just 53.5kg with Glen Schofield aboard.
Drawn one wider than Herculian Prince is the Bart Cummings-trained Faint Perfume who is currently a $9 chance to win the Caulfield Cup.
The four-year-old Shamardal mare has been relatively quiet this season most recently finishing sixth in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington with 56kg on her back.
However, dropping back to 52kg for the Caulfield Cup brings Faint Perfume right into contention.
Cummings, seeking his seventh Caulfield Cup, also has his Queensland Derby winning mare Dariana lining up from barrier eight currently paying $10.
