Bart Cummings’ smart mare Dariana has overtaken Moudre in the betting markets for the 2010 Caulfield Cup following her eye-catching run in the Underwood Stakes on Saturday.
Redoute’s Choice four-year-old Dariana put in an impressive performance at Caulfield to finish second to her start stablemate So You Think in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m).
It was a huge second-up improvement for the Queensland Derby winner after Dariana resumed racing in the Let’s Elope Stakes finishing a disappointing eighth at the start of the month.
Moudre is still yet to qualify for the 2010 Caulfield Cup and has drifted out to $11 through Ladbrokes.com.au
Dariana is now the clear $7 favourite to win the 2010 Caulfield Cup on October 16 at Sportsbet, overtaking the early leader in the odds Moudre.
The Ciaron Maher-trained Moudre has drifted out to the $11 second elect in the Caulfield Cup betting after the five-year-old failed to gain a ballot exemption for the race in Saturday’s Group 3 Naturalism Stakes (2000m).
Moudre ran a solid third behind Rainbow Styling and Valdemoro, coming from over 12 lengths behind to finish in the money, but still must pass the ballot via another race.
Maher is considering the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) on October 2 for Moudre to qualify for the Caulfield Cup.
The other two horses high up in the early Caulfield Cup betting are the Gai Waterhouse-trained Herculian Prince and Naturalism Stakes runner-up Valdemoro at $13.
