The Blevic five-year-old Moudre impressed Flemington spectators with a convincing win in the $75,000 Listed Keith Jackson and Colin Johnston Handicap (1410m) on Saturday.
The win resulted in jockey Craig Williams being so impressed he articulated his desires to stay with the gelding through the spring, with reins in hand.
The Warrnambool-based five-year-old is steadily improving as his career progresses, having started 11 times and winning five.
Those five victories all came over his last six starts, and have resulted in $134,950 in prizemoney.
Moudre’s last start resulted in a win over 1, 800 metres at Flemington when he beat Module for the honours.
The result triggered a confidence within Maher that the gelding has what it takes to do well over the 3, 200m Cup distance.
The 2010 Caulfield Cup nominee’s next jump is likely to be the $100,000 Listed Heatherlie Handicap (1700m) on August 28, with the Caulfield Cup scheduled to jump on October 16.
